Overview

VIMHANS is among the few hospitals in Delhi that provide dedicated mental health services. It offers facility-based care, overseen by experienced healthcare professionals (HCPs). VIMHANS has a well-earned reputation for being able to serve those most in need — patients with severe mental health conditions.

Patients who need facility-based care represent a small fraction of those facing mental health challenges. The majority of patients need convenient and regular access to a psychologist or counsellor to cope with conditions like anxiety and depression that have not yet reached debilitating levels. They do not need intensive, facility-based care.

To reach a broader group of patients, VIMHANS sought to develop a mobile-first platform that offers virtual care—the VIMHANS Virtual Care Platform (V2CP)—to complement facility-based care.

The mobile app allows patients to register, book appointments, make payments, and receive virtual consultations.

HCPs can access the platform via an Android app or a web browser. They can review their schedules, confirm appointments, and perform virtual consultations while reviewing the patient's medical history.

V2CP uses the FHIR data model for patient records, scheduling, and prescriptions. It uses the open-source jitsi project for videoconferencing, with enhancements such as a call recording feature and access to customized actions from the call interface.
